Monkey D. Dragon

Monkey D. Dragon, also known as the "Rebellious Dragon," holds the infamous position of Supreme Commander within the Revolutionary Army. He stands as one of the founding members of this revolutionary organization and was previously the Captain of the Freedom Fighters. His life's mission centers around the overthrow of the World Government, earning him the ominous title of the "World's Worst Criminal." Interestingly, Dragon is the father of Monkey D. Luffy and the son of Monkey D. Garp, having been born in the Goa Kingdom, the same place as his son and father. Dragon's connection with Sabo is also significant, as he saved Sabo from a near-fatal encounter with a World Noble attack, ultimately grooming him to become his second-in-command. Introduced during the Loguetown Arc, Dragon played a crucial role in aiding Luffy's escape from the clutches of Marine captain Smoker. Subsequently, he intermittently surfaces as an influential background character throughout the series. Notably, Dragon had never been a part of his son Luffy's life, leaving his custody to Luffy's grandfather, Monkey D. Garp.

 

Luffy only discovered Dragon as his father two years ago when Garp revealed the truth at Water 7, and he first saw Dragon's face in a report regarding the destruction of Baltigo. Despite this revelation, Luffy's primary focus remains on his sworn brother Sabo, and he doesn't seem particularly concerned with his father's role in the Revolutionary Army. In the past, Ivankov observed Dragon's continuous gaze towards the East Blue and speculated about his possible family connections in that region. Dragon appears to support Luffy's pirate journey, having shown approval during their encounter in Loguetown and expressing his hope that Luffy's exploits will shape the world's future. He actively intervened to save Luffy from Smoker's capture, anticipating a reunion with his son in the future. In his interactions with his subordinates, Dragon typically maintains a serious and professional demeanor, emphasizing the ongoing war against the World Government and its formidable power and resources. Dragon is exceptionally guarded about his personal life and background, sharing very little with anyone, including his immediate relatives. The only known exception to this secrecy is Bartholomew Kuma, who possessed knowledge of Dragon's family connections. Despite his reluctance, Dragon acknowledged the information's potential to humanize him in the eyes of his subordinates when news about his family was released after the Summit War of Marineford. As the Supreme Commander of the Revolutionary Army, Dragon wields tremendous authority over a formidable paramilitary force that poses a substantial threat to the long-standing World Government. His actions have earned him the title of the "World's Worst Criminal," yet he has managed to elude capture, despite the world's most formidable powers actively pursuing him. Notably, Emporio Ivankov expressed concerns about the possibility of the World Government targeting Dragon, especially when allied with Whitebeard. Sengoku utilized Dragon's connection to Luffy to mark the young pirate as a threat to humanity's future, and Demaro Black exploited this reputation in his impersonation of Luffy. While specific details about Dragon's combat abilities remain shrouded in mystery, he commands a powerful roster of army officials, including his chief-of-staff Sabo and the five commanders. All have demonstrated their combat prowess by defeating notable pirates and Marines within the Grand Line. Dragon's swift intervention in stopping Smoker when he was about to strike Luffy with his jitte highlights his capabilities. Despite his high-profile criminal status, Smoker made no effort to apprehend him. Furthermore, Dragon's association with Luffy's indomitable will to survive in Impel Down suggests that he possesses a similar level of determination. Notably, strong gusts of wind have been associated with Dragon during significant events in the Goa Kingdom and Loguetown, aiding him in accomplishing his objectives. It remains unclear whether Dragon directly generates these winds or possesses a power enabling him to summon them. Additionally, he managed to reach Sabo's sinking ship off the coast of Dawn Island without drawing attention from onlookers, demonstrating his exceptional abilities.
