If so, perhaps it could partly relate to what vegapunk said in his message when he couldn't label either side of void century factions as good or evil.  The idea is that one piece works as a retelling of genesis: the devil fruits (akuma no mi) emerged from kouki (curiosity), the human desire to evolve and be free. However, upon becoming physical, they were corrupted by maki (malice), the demonic energy that imu-sama controls. While haki is the power born from the assertion of one's will, maki is a power that consumes and removes the user's will, turning them into a slave to the fruit or to imu themselves.  

 
In this trinity, the final conflict is philosophical: on one side, we have maki, which offers strength in exchange for the loss of identity (like the gorosei), and on the other, haki, which represents the absolute freedom of the soul. Luffy's (nika's) role is to use his overwhelming will to free kouki (curiosity and dreams) from the prison of maki, giving back to the people the right to desire without being cursed. If you look closely, imu did not receive the last attack from loki, he dismantled it using his technique, if you look closely at his technique it looks like he is generating omen fire from the dot in his palm, so the dots on his body has something to do with his power, and if he has such overwhelming fire power, then why is he seeking the mother flame. Its really funny how we readers have more information about who they're fighting than the characters do. Once imu leaves and the giants ask what the hell happened and who were they fighting, they'll just get a "bruh i have no freaking idea" from luffy/loki/zoro/sanji.  I'm trying to connect a lot of dots together and my mind is in absolute chaos.

Maki feels like some kind of tanglible energy that exists in nature. "its power dwells in all things". Anyone can technically grasp that power, nobody knows how, and imu's devil power grants him absolute control over it. We could assume that asura and diable jambe are unconscious applications of maki, albeit very weak. Maki creates demons, and the ultimate form of maki is a devil fruit. A demon that can possess you (zoan) or grant you power (paramecia/logia). If there were two devils inside you, they'd shred you apart.

I feel like maki is created by humans emotions, dreams, perhaps despair, or souls in general. Imu says that envy creates maki. Vegapunk says that dreams create devil fruits. I can possibly connect it to prayers towards luffy in wano/skypiea too. I think living beings leave that energy behind, and so it "dwells in all things" and imu's fruit was created to harness that power and share it, but it turned out into what imu describes. Crazy thought based on no evidence: i had this idea that perhaps god valley genocide created tons of maki, and on the other side of the spectrum, d people smiling in death is something that doesn't create anything imu can control. Imu can take energy of the dead (like a devil taking a soul out of hell) and create a zoan, but he can't harness roger's soul, for example. This one is very random, but that's just a shower thought, a crazy possible application.
