Move over, standard pre-show vocal warmups Harry Styles has a new hype routine, and it involves screaming at a giant screen.
On Wednesday, July 1, the pop sensation proved he’s just a regular bloke at heart when England clinched a nail-biting 2-1 World Cup victory over DR Congo. And where was Harry during this historic moment? Hanging out at Wembley Stadium, getting ready for a gig on his 12-night Together, Together residency, and absolutely losing his mind.
The Pre-Show Pitch Invasion
Thanks to eagle-eyed fans armed with smartphones, the internet was blessed with footage of Styles abandoning all pop-star decorum. Emerging from a stadium tunnel dressed like he was ready for a quick gym session sporting a white long-sleeve top, athletic shorts, and the crispiest of white trainers the 32-year-old went full football hooligan (the friendly kind, of course).
Witnesses report the following shenanigans:
Maximum Airtime: Styles jumping up and down with the energy of a man who just found out Watermelon Sugar went triple platinum (again).
Fist Pumping: Aggressive, joyous, and perfectly on beat.
Stranger Danger Discarded: Hugging two lucky fans right there on the floor near the stage while celebrating the big win.
After waving to the adoring, football-crazed masses above him, Harry scurried back into the VIP depths to actually, you know, put on a massive stadium show.
This isn't Harry's first time showing off his love for the beautiful game. Hardcore fans will remember his cameo at the Luton Town vs. Manchester United game back in February 2014—an era iconic not just for the football, but for Harry debuting a noticeably shorter haircut.
From Football Highs to Hydration Lows 🐋
The joyous Wednesday night celebration was a welcome change of pace from his show just a few days prior on Friday, June 26, where Harry nearly took himself out during his own encore.
While closing the show with "As It Was," Harry attempted his signature "whale" move—the one where he elegantly spouts a mouthful of water into the air. Instead of looking majestic, the "American Girls" singer inhaled at the exact wrong moment, choking on the water and collapsing flat on his back.
Fan footage captured the singer:
Hit the deck.
Heave and cough into his hand like he just swallowed a bug.
Lay there contemplating his life choices.
But because he’s a consummate professional, it only took about 17 seconds for Styles to miraculously resurrect, hop back on his feet, flash a smile, and wave goodbye to a very concerned audience.
Catch Him While You Can
Harry's massive global Together, Together residency has been rolling strong since May, riding the high of his latest smash-hit album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, which dropped in March.
If you're heading to one of his upcoming shows, expect fantastic music, wild dance moves, and—if England keeps winning a very, very hyped-up pop star. Just maybe keep him away from the water bottles.
