Many know Brook as the King's most devout follower, but the story of exactly why he stands so firmly by his side reveals a deeply human journey of resentment, unlikely friendship, and salvation.

Here is a look back at how Brook grew up, and the defining moments that bound his fate to the crown.

Brook’s early life was a far cry from the pristine halls of the castle. Growing up in a sprawling junkyard, his childhood was defined by a severe lack of opportunity and a daily struggle simply to survive.

When you spend your formative years fighting for scraps, it is easy to find a target for your anger. For Brook, that target was the former King. He harbored a deep, simmering resentment toward the monarchy, directly blaming the old regime's neglect for the poverty-stricken reality he and so many others were forced to endure.

An Unlikely and Disguised Friendship

It was amidst this backdrop of bitterness and rusted metal that a chance encounter changed his trajectory forever. Brook crossed paths with a charismatic 21-year-old who seemed out of place, yet wholly genuine.

What Brook didn't know was that this young man was actually Prince Rueven.

Choosing to keep his royal identity a closely guarded secret, Rueven didn't approach Brook as a future ruler looking down on a subject. Instead, they met as equals. Stripped of his royal titles and the heavy expectations of the crown, the Prince bonded with the junkyard youth, and a genuine, unpretentious friendship blossomed between them in the most unlikely of places.

The Rescue That Changed Everything

While their undercover friendship laid the groundwork, it was a sudden crisis that truly cemented Brook's lifelong devotion.

When Brook eventually found himself in grave danger, cornered and targeted by the Marines, his future looked bleak. It was then that Prince Rueven finally revealed his true hand. Alongside his fierce ally, Candelle, the Prince risked everything to intercept the Marines and rescue his friend.

They didn't just save Brook's life that day—they pulled him from the forgotten margins of society and brought him into the sanctuary of the castle.

A Lifelong Trust

For Brook, this profound act of kindness completely shattered his lifelong preconceptions of the royal family. The crown was no longer a distant symbol of his childhood oppression, but rather the face of the friend who had risked everything to save him.

"This act of kindness earned him Brook's lifelong loyalty and trust."

Today, when Brook stands beside the King, he isn't following a title or a bloodline. He is following the 21-year-old boy who met him in the junkyard, and the man who proved that true leadership is defined by how you protect those who have nothing.

Channing ayon kay ...

Once again Oda using this recurring thing of having a Straw Hat grow up as either orphans or distant from their biological parents and find family-like figures elsewhere.

Mugiwara ayon kay ...

So the flashback goes even furhter back? and here I had hoped they would just show that in a few panel. The flashback is already getting slow. even if every information is needed. Guess next time we see how the Queen came to be. And only then will we see the tragedy that happened to Esperia.

Kazuki ayon kay ...

Wow, Shuri really had to love Brook if her crush didn't faded even slightly after 7 years that passed. It was funny to see her throw her sword at him when he went to pick on other ladies. Btw so, he always was shamelessly asking for panties. I thought this was something that came to him as he aged and stoped caring for appearances.
Anyway, poor Brook had to rise himself in slums. I changed my mind about king. He still look rough but he is really good guy if he was walking around disguised as regular person just to understand his future subjects. That's rare among royality and nobility. Also I wonder why Marines were targeting Brook. Did someone snitched on him for sneaking around to see children learning how to play instruments or they were just one of those rotten one who pick on poor people to feel powerful?

Oh, and seems like hints were wrong. No Gorosei in sight and neither any ship to "that place" which probably was Marie Geoise. I still don't trust the queen. She's too suspicious but I hope I will be nicely surprised.

Enji Night ayon kay ...

Feeling less confident in the Candelle being a Holy Knight theory. Sounds like she's been in Esperia for a long time. Even Garling wasn't in God Valley for that long.

I feel like Candelle might be a member of the Manmayer family who left in a similar manner to Doflamingo's family. But in that case, I doubt she would be a Holy Knight since she would have had a covenant and Imu could control her. So maybe she was a devoteb blade at best.

Taka ayon kay ...

Seeing Shuri like this feels really tragic when considering how she looks and acts like in the modern day.
And Candel has to have some connection to the CDs since she looks too similar to a holy knight.
But I really hope we don't see a repeat of the traitor plot move.
We saw in Wano. We saw it in Egghead. Don't think we need to see it for a 3rd time.
