Only in one piece an 800 year old ruler with edgy design having a century-long beef with a cartoony squirrel. Imu can't even break his ice, ragnir the goat i mean squirrel. Brook was also shredding in the cover. That was cool. Brook is actually super interesting as a character because his lore is so different from the rest of the straw hats. I believe it’s because he came from the previous generation long before gol d. Rodger.
Different tales and stories. The crew can call upon “recent” events inspiring them, brook goes further back. Brook and sanji are very similar to me, in that they both get some genuinely great moments and characterisations, and then also stuff like the fucking invisibility fruit, fishman island, and so on. Such heights, and such lows. Luckily enough this does seem to be one of the heights. Brook's lows are not as devastating as sanji's, even beyond the sexual harasement stuff if oda is not careful and actually makes sanji hesitate to attack zaza while the children are drowing that would make fans rightfully complain about his character. Sanji is definitely much worse about it. I had the same realisation others did about zaza and good god i would hate that. A mother is about to die to try to save her child and we're all worrying about whether sanji will refuse to help because he refuses to hit the literal nightmare because it looks like a woman? People's lives are at stake sanji!
Brook's lows definitely aren't as egregious as that, but yeah i think the perv humour is just a bit of a shame since it's only ever detracted from and never strengthened the character nor any scenes for me. An easy comparison would be iruma-kun with lied's older sister especially, who's competent but also a bit of a loser in terms of romance in a way which works (and which i don't want to spoil because the reveal is great).
On a happier note the flashback is overall looking to be good.
