Leaked Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro renders show off massive rear camera array

It appears that Chinese phone-maker Huawei is sticking with the circular camera motif it established with 2019's Mate 30 range – new leaked renders allegedly showing the upcoming Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro have revealed a similarly round camera array that's even bigger that it was on last year's models.

The renders, courtesy of a joint effort between @OnLeaks, @Pricebaba and @HandsetExpert, show near identical rear camera modules on both models, distinguished only by a difference in one of the camera's sensors.

The first image, said to be of the standard Huawei Mate 40, shows three regular-looking sensors (likely an update of the Mate 30's wide, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses) opposite a fourth blacked-out sensor.

The image below that, presumed to be the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, features the same three regular sensors along with a square periscope sensor to round out the package.

As for other differences, it appears that the standard Mate 40 sports a flat display, while the Mate 40 Pro boasts curved glass on either side of the screen – a mild departure from the 'quad-curve overflow display' that featured on the P40 Pro earlier in the year, which also sported curved glass at the top and bottom of its screen.

Both phones seem to feature a pill-shaped cutout which house their respective selfie cameras. Based on looks alone, it appears as though Huawei has carried over its front-facing camera implementation from the P40 Pro, which featured a wide lens accompanied by a ToF (time-of-flight) 3D sensor.

As always, all of the information above (including the leaked renders) should be taken with a grain of salt until Huawei itself lifts the curtain on its upcoming devices, which is expected to happen sometime in October.

Motorola Razr 2020 leaked images point to a redesign for the foldable phone

We've long known the Motorola Razr 2019 foldable phone was going to get a successor in 2020, thanks to the company telling us about it, but we hadn't actually heard much about this new device. However, that's all changed with some leaked hands-on images of the phone.

These images were posted by a user of Chinese social media platform Weibo, before being hastily deleted, but not before Sparrowsnews managed to save the pictures.

The foldable phone shown in the pictures seems to be a working device, so it would be quite an elaborate prank to pull, but as with all pre-release information on a device, we can't be totally sure it's accurate.

For example, this could be a prototype Motorola made but decided against, so while this phone could hint at some changes the Motorola Razr 2020 might make from its predecessor, it doesn't necessarily confirm them.

The leaked hands-on images of the Motorola Razr 2020 suggest the phone could have a much smaller chin than its predecessor, without the physical fingerprint sensor that was housed in it. The body of the thing also seems to be less angular, with the top and bottom edge (when unfolded) being much more curved.

The hinge mechanism we can see looks a little more visible than on the original model though, which lends credence to the idea that this could be a prototype. There's even an exposed screw that can be seen in it, which would almost certainly be hidden in a retail device.

When the phone is folded we can see the camera and flash have been moved down, likely to make room for what seems to be a bigger 'mini-screen' on the cover.

Finally, in the pictures, the Motorola Razr 2020 has a gray and black color, which seems to be a new scheme for the phone, but it's possible it will come out in a range of colors besides this one.

We're not sure when the Motorola Razr 2020 is set to be unveiled, other than likely towards the end of the year, but if more leaks happen we should get a better idea of what the upcoming foldable phone will be like, so we'll make sure to bring them to you.

Samsung Galaxy S30 release date and price

Samsung always unveils its new Galaxy S models early in the year, and in recent years it has been announcing them in February, then selling them from March, so it’s very likely it will do the same with the Samsung Galaxy S30 range.

We can’t get much more specific than that, but recently the company has avoided MWC (a trade show which takes place at the end of February) and launched its phones earlier in the month, so that too is likely in 2021.

As for how much the Samsung Galaxy S30 range will cost, the phones will probably be at least as expensive as the Galaxy S20 range, likely meaning a starting price for the basic model of at least $999 / £899 / AU$1,499, with the Samsung Galaxy S30 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S30 Ultra likely costing even more.
