I think imu's outburst toward joyboy is because he might see joyboy's ability to ensnare others in joy or to his beat as a type of domination. This is supported by how imu's own power is portrayed with the buildings and everything singing and dancing as well. Their disagreement over the principles of that sort of thing might be fueling his rage.
Interesting that imu names his attack nemesis. Nemesis being the goddess of vengeance and retribution. But more specifically, she pursued those who "over reached" such as a mortal trying to become a god. So imu is very definitively themed around the philosophy that people need to "stay in their lane" and the belief that pursuit of something greater is inherently hubris rather than an ideal to strive toward.
We're getting into some deep philosophy with this arc. Oda is already saying that whatever loki and lufy got going on, they don't live by a creed that imu can exploit naturally. So here's hoping there will be some messaging on how somebody in the real world could rise in power without such hubris. I think for more people, there is no such path so i'm very curious what oda's answer is. Was imu wielding a version of the giant sword that's lodged in the tree? Oda made sure that he showed it off a lot in the panels prior to him impaling loki, in fact the frame where imu blocks loki's attack the way the scene is set makes the shadow/flame look like it's being stabbed by the sword because of how it parts.
Corruption, covenant, omen being imu's trifoce is kinda interesting. Since it looks like joyboy and imu were friends or at least amicable at one point, i wonder if imu offered eternal life to joyboy so they could live as friends eternally if he signed the covenant - but joyboy refused to remain a free man and live as he wanted. Super action heavy chapter, i really do think jarul is still set to make the sacrifice and one of gaban or ripley to have a near death experience before luffy finishes his meal and delays till the timer is done.
