Manchester City Triumphs Over Juventus with a 5-2 Victory

Juventus is now set to face Real Madrid in the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup following a heavy 5-2 defeat to Manchester City, which left them as runners-up in Group G.

Both teams had already secured their places in the knockout stage after winning their first two matches against Wydad and Al-Ain, turning this clash into a battle for the top position. The Bianconeri, having scored one more goal than City, could afford a draw and opted for six changes, including the return of Dusan Vlahovic and Filip Kostić, who made his first appearance in over a year since his loan to Fenerbahce. Meanwhile, City welcomed back Ballon d'Or winner Rodri for his first start since suffering a severe knee injury in September 2024, although Erling Haaland began the match on the bench.

For fans eager to catch the Club World Cup action, DAZN offers a free streaming service this summer, with the option to upgrade to a premium plan. While the free version includes ads and lacks replays or extended highlights, it remains an enticing option for viewers.

Manchester City Triumphs Over Juventus with a 5-2 Victory

The match began with a warning sign for Juventus as Michele Di Gregorio denied Bernardo Silva early on after Rayan Ait-Nouri outpaced Manuel Locatelli down the left flank. Shortly after, Ait-Nouri capitalized on Alberto Costa's lapse in concentration, allowing Jeremy Doku to cut inside Pierre Kalulu and find the far bottom corner.

Juventus squandered a prime opportunity to equalize when Vlahovic scuffed a shot from 12 yards after a well-placed roll from Costa. Just moments later, Ederson misplayed a ball from the back, allowing Teun Koopmeiners to intercept and score from a tight angle.

The mistakes continued for Juventus as Kalulu, unmarked, deflected a pull-back from Matheus Nunes into his own net from eight yards out. Di Gregorio made a crucial save to parry an Ait-Nouri shot from distance and just managed to tip an Omar Marmoush strike around the post.

Haaland entered the fray at halftime and nearly scored within a minute, narrowly missing a connection with a Savinho pass. However, he soon found the net, bundling a Matheus Nunes assist over the line despite a poor touch from close range, as Koopmeiners failed to track the run.

Kenan Yildiz, who came off the bench, nearly added to the score but shot just wide. Juventus faced further setbacks as Nicolò Savona suffered a sprained ankle, and Vlahovic missed a one-on-one chance against Ederson with a chipped effort.

Haaland's first touch from a long clearance by Ederson set up a lay-off intended for Phil Foden, which ultimately led to a tap-in assisted by Savinho. Di Gregorio made a remarkable save against Haaland, but the ball fell to Savinho, who unleashed a stunning shot off the underside of the bar with his weaker right foot.

Juventus managed to slightly reduce the deficit when Kenan Yildiz found Vlahovic with a clever through ball. Di Gregorio remained alert in stoppage time, denying Rayan Cherki in a one-on-one situation.

Goals:

  • Doku 9' (M)
  • Koopmeiners 11' (J)
  • Kalulu (og) 26' (M)
  • Haaland 52' (M)
  • Foden 69' (M)

Manchester City Defeat Real Madrid in Champions League Semis

Manchester City will take a slender lead into their Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid after a sensational game at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side were 4-3 winners but, somehow, were left to rue a number of other big chances. They were punished by the ruthless visitors who, thanks to Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior, were able to stay within touching distance of their opponents. Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring inside two minutes with the fastest goal in Champions League semi-final history before Gabriel Jesus doubled the lead nine minutes later. An excellent Benzema volley which came out of nothing - halved the deficit to make it 2-1 at half-time.

There was much more of the same in the second period and it took Phil Foden just seven minutes to restore his side’s two-goal lead. Although, that lasted all of two minutes as Vinicius finished off a brilliant run with an extremely cool finish. City came again as Bernardo Silva sent a rocket beyond Thibaut Courtois and into the top corner to make it 4-2 but Benzema ensured their lead would be cut to just the single goal for the second leg. After Aymeric Laporte was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the penalty area, the Real Madrid striker held his nerve to chip his spot kick past the diving Ederson. The two teams will do battle next Wednesday at the Bernabeu to determine which side will play in the Champions League is just over a month’s time. Two of Manchester City goalscorers this evening have been thrust in front of the media straight after the game and they have echoed much of what the viewers will have been saying, I'm sure. Firstly, Phil Foden. "For the fans watching, it was obviously a great game of football, a lot of goals," he said. "We're coming up against a team that has won the Champions League many times and we know that if we give the ball away in dangerous areas, they're going to punish us. It's something we need to work on in the second leg and the game's still on." Secondly. Bernardo Silva. "I honestly think that the first 20 minutes we were so, so good," he added. "The way we pressed, the way we controlled the game, the way we created chances and over the 90 minutes, it felt like we could've won with a better score. Unfortunately we were not able to take advantage of our two-goal advantages but that's the Champions League. We played against one of the best teams in the world and it's still a good score for us." Tonight has shown exactly why the Champions League is the absolute pinnacle of world football. The referee brings an end to the game of the season at the Etihad where both teams more than played their part. Manchester City will be scratching their heads as to how they are only a goal in front heading to the Bernabeu but it is a lead, all the same. Guardiola and Ancelotti share a smile after the final whistle and they certainly won't be the only ones smiling after that truly brilliant game of football.

Cristiano Ronaldo Is Coming Back To Manchester United!

Soccer Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo could be headed back to the English Premier League and he's being linked to the crosstown rivals of the team where he became an icon. According to multiple reports, Ronaldo is being linked to a transfer to powerhouse Manchester City, winners of three of the last four Premier League titles. City, which just lost former striker Sergio Agüero to Barcelona, is coached by Pep Guardiola, largely considered to be one of the top soccer managers in the world. The transfer would be a seismic shift in a summer that has already seen some significant changes, none bigger than Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain.

Ronaldo, 36, is one of the most decorated soccer players in history. A five-time Ballon d'Or winner, Ronaldo has also won seven domestic championships and five Champions League titles in his 20 seasons in European soccer. Ronaldo became an international soccer star in the early-mid 2000s, when he played for Manchester United for six seasons. Manchester City and Manchester United are bitter rivals. Before joining Manchester United, he played one season for Sporting CP, a club in his native Portugal. But after he left Manchester United, he went on to star for Spanish giants Real Madrid, where he played for nine seasons from 2009-18. As rumors have started to swirl over Ronaldo's future, he posted a message to his verified Instagram account on August 17, referring to the speculation about his future as a "disrespect." Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or five times in his career, helping Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus all win league titles. He has a combined five Champions League titles in his career and could help Manchester City win its first after losing in the final last year. Ronaldo remains a threat on the pitch, scoring 60 goals in 66 Serie A matches over the last two seasons. It could create an exciting partnership if Manchester City is able to complete the move before the transfer window closes Tuesday.
