Gran Turismo Movie Plot Revealed

Announced alongside Horizon and God of War TV shows coming to streaming platforms, the Hollywood adaptation of Gran Turismo now has a plot. Building on the popularity of the racing simulation video game series from Polyphony Digital, the upcoming movie will focus on the competitive element of Gran Turismo.

Reports note that the film is “Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish-fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.” The brief plot note is believed to be inspired by Lucas Ordóñez, who was the inaugural winner of the GT Academy, an international virtual-to-reality competition by Nissan, Sony PlayStation and Polyphony Digital. Ordóñez went on to reach the podium with Nissan in the European GT4 Cup campaign, score two victories and finish the season as a runner-up in the championship. The Gran Turismo film currently in early development from Sony PlayStation Productions will be directed by District 9 and Elysium’s Neill Blomkamp. Look for the Hollywood adaptation to be released August 11, 2023.

Lisa Banes, ‘Gone Girl’ Actress, Dies at 65 via Hit and Run

Lisa Banes, a film and television actress whose credits include films such as Gone Girl and A Cure for Wellness, has died 10 days after being struck by a driver in a hit-and-run in New York City. She was 65. Banes died Monday, June 14, at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, according to the New York Police Department. The NYPD previously told THR that a pedestrian was hit on June 4 by “an unknown scooter or motorcycle” near the corner of West 64th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. The scooter, according to the NYPD, didn’t stop and fled the location.

The pedestrian, later identified as Banes, was taken to the Mount Sinai hospital. Born in Ohio and a graduate of Juilliard, Banes’ film credits include Young Guns, A Cure for Wellness, as well as Gone Girl in which she played Marybeth Elliott, mother of Amy Elliott (Rosamund Pike). She also starred in several television series including The Orville, Nashville, Royal Pains and Masters of Sex. Banes also appeared on Broadway several times, playing Cassie in the Neil Simon play Rumors in 1988, Margaret Lord in the musical High Society in 1998, as well as appearing in Accent on Youth in 2009, and most recently in the 2010 revival of Present Laughter. The Orville‘s Seth MacFarlane was among those who took to Twitter to remember Banes, writing, “I am deeply saddened at the news of Lisa Banes’ passing. We had the good fortune to work with her on The Orville this past year. Her stage presence, magnetism, skill and talent were matched only by her unwavering kindness and graciousness toward all of us. A tremendous loss…”
