Even zoro points out to luffy that the moment he allows himself to be stepped on zoro would leave. Whitebeard complained about the rocks crew lacking cohesion and this chapter perfectly explains that. They truly were just a ragtag group of powerful people tied together through the obligation of a davy back fight and not an actual belief in their captain. What if in god valley this what may happened and in order not to make roger and garp feel less character wise (protecting celestial dragon) as well.. Rocks d. Xebec had assembled a crew powerful enough to challenge imu directly. Sensing a real threat, imu secretly intervened in the battle. Using possibly domi reversi imu manipulated or took control of xebec’s mind. Under imu’s influence, xebec appeared to go rogue, attacking civilians and causing chaos. (although I dont know how due to rocks' feat this chapter haha) Roger and garp, unaware of the manipulation, joined forces not to protect the celestial dragons, but to protect innocent lives. (this is the only way I can think of why garp and roger may cooperate) and government painted it as garp protecting celestial dragon The rocks pirates, deceived by the situation, abandoned/betrayed xebec and believing he had lost control. Later on as they know the truth a little to late, struggling with guilt and the shame of their actions, they chose to bury the memory of xebec and the truth of god valley each going their separate way.
