Definitely leaning towards candelle's mission from imu was to infiltrate and influence the prince to become one of imu's pieces. But she fell in awe and respect , then slowly followed her own path to protecting the prince. Interesting that we're getting a flashback within the flashback. I'd assume we might montage through the rest of brooks teen years come next chapter to be caught up to where it is now.
Similarly, the flashback itself started in the middle since it began when shuri was 7 and then jumped ahead another 7 years, sort of like how the rocks flashback jumped ahead a few years every chapter. It'll be interesting to see if candelle looks any older going forward - she looked identical here to how she did at the beginning of the flashback in spite of it being some 9 years beforehand. It's possible it's just oda and his ways when it comes to letting women visibly age, but there might be more to it possibly akin to the elders etc.
