This is one of my favorite chapters in recent memory. Leuven is also moving up as one of my favorite characters, he’s such a kind man who’s conviction is honestly astounding, especially for a noble it’s nice to see a man who really gives a fuck about his people so overtly, not caring about the politics of the world, but the overall welfare and love of his people. He’s ready to even challenge the government for it. Luffy would’ve loved him.
The scene above is deeply tragic. I felt that the usage of panels was a huge step up from some of the recent chapters and it works so effectively to tell a lot without necessarily showing it. I’m convinced that the navy guy there is connected shiryu in some capacity, makes me wonder how much more sinister he is, and how much we deeper this continues to go. This is truly demonic stuff.
Also seeing brooks face as he watched the girl he helped raise kill the man who gave him another chance at life and raised him like his own. It’s so deeply tragic. I feel so sorry for shuri, the pain must be unimaginable. This feels so sinister especially considering when the celestial dragons arrived, and the fog descended upon the city, and candel falling sick, this seems planned out. Maybe they were looking for something, and unfortunately candel was a perfect subject. I have more theories regarding this but i’m not going to dive too deep into it here.
Also huge drops regarding islands being erased in the west blue. Theres too much of a theme now for it to be mere coincidence. Overall such a well written and thought out chapter, you can feel oda’s passion in this one.
