Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action Pokémon movie to tie into their upcoming live-action series. Since it premiered in 1996, Pokémon has been one of the most successful multimedia franchises in history. It has been featured in a large number of video games, trading cards, television series, and even features films, with Pokémon: The First Movie still the highest-grossing anime film at the domestic box office. Following the popularity resurgence of Pokémon Go in 2016, a live-action film based on the video was fast-tracked. In 2019, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures released Detective Pikachu based in the world of Pokémon. Despite getting positive reviews from critics and audiences and a respectable box office, the film failed to match the likes of similar nostalgic cartoons turned movies like Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In 2021, Netflix announced they were developing a live-action Pokémon series, a first for the franchise.

Currently, there's no word on when the film will premiere or if it will proceed with the television series or after it. Netflix's decision to do a live-action Pokémon movie fits in with many of the company's creative decisions. Netflix has recently invested heavily in a string of high-profile live-action adaptations of popular anime series like One Piece and Cowboy Bebop. The streamer's previous foray into anime adaptations like Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist may not have inspired much confidence, but the streamer sees a high value in the market for anime and anime-inspired productions including a big-budget adaptation of Gundam from Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Pokémon also fits in with a wider trend in properties Netflix adapts. While the streamer is focused on getting as many eyes on the service as possible with a wide variety of programming, many of their highest-profile series are adaptations of popular media of the '90s and 2000s, from adapting Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Event books into a television show after the 2004 film failed to launch a franchise to the recent Fear Street trilogy of films. Netflix also just announced the cast of their live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Many of the streaming service's choices have been focused on courting a now-adult millennial audience with adaptations of things they remember from their youth. With Pokémon being such a beloved part of many people's childhood, they are likely willing to watch a film based on the popular series at home, possibly with their own families.

Wheel of Time Trailer And Release Date

”The power inside you: all over the world there are different names for it. But it’s one thing, One Power, and women who can touch it we protect the world.” So says Rosamund Pike’s character, Moiraine Damodred, in the first Wheel of Time trailer released by Amazon. Even for those who have never read the Robert Jordan novels upon which the series is based, it’s clear that the powerful women featured in this preview are the ones to be reckoned with. So why is someone called “the Dark One” pursuing a small group of friends who look much less imposing than the robed women that appear prominently throughout the trailer?

Book readers may recognize young Rand Al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), Mat Cauthon (Barney Harris), and Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) looking relatively carefree in the clips in which they appear, but there’s little doubt that their simple life is about to be irrevocably disrupted. In the quote mentioned above, Moiraine is likely speaking to the boys’ fellow small-town innocent, Egwene Al’Vere (Madeleine Madden), who seems to be embarking on her own journey towards becoming one of the Aes Sedai, the sect of magic-weaving women in this world. One can spot the One Power being wielded both to heal and to stop a hail of arrows, and fans of the Wheel of Time novels will feel the sheer single-minded intimidation of the crimson-clad Red Aes Sedai shot from below.

But there’s also much talk of the cycle of history from which Wheel of Time gets its name and the forces of fate that push everyone towards inevitable conflict. “No matter what happens, what pain we face, what heartbreak, the wheel keeps turning,” one character says wistfully. But one of the women says more forcefully, “The last battle is coming. The only thing that matters is what you do,” creating a sense that the stakes associated with the journey depicted in other clips are massive. Throughout the Wheel of Time trailer, the women speak and act as though they are either helping those around them to achieve the purpose for which they were born or fighting against those who seek to bring them down. Their power lies not only in the magic they weave, but in the manipulations they effect behind the scenes, both for good and ill. Moiraine finishes the Wheel of Time trailer by saying, “Whatever happens now, there’s no turning back,” and with this sneak peek finally available to eager fans both new and old, the November 19 premiere is also on a collision course. Amazon Prime Video will air three episodes the first week and the other five weekly each Friday until the Christmas Eve finale.

It’s Tom Hardy vs. Woody Harrelson in the new official trailer for “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” the latest directorial feature from motion capture genius Andy Serkis. A sequel to the critically-panned but hugely successful 2018 comic book tentpole “Venom,” which earned over $800 million at the worldwide box office, “Let There Be Carnage” also marks the return of Michelle Williams to the franchise and the introduction of “Moonlight” Oscar nominee Naomie Harris as Shriek, the love interest for Carnage.

As revealed last month, Hardy is getting the first “story by” credit of his career on the “Venom” sequel after “spending months” brainstorming the narrative for “Let There Be Carnage” with screenwriter Kelly Marcel. “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.” “This is new for him, to get credit,” Marcel told Empire Magazine. “but it’s not new for him to be this involved. He’s absolutely 100 percent committed to everything that he does. He’s married to Venom. He loves this character. He’s very involved in what he thinks should happen.” “While Marcel gets the full screenplay credit, her script sprang from lengthy conversations with Hardy where they hashed out how exactly Venom and chaotic red symbiote Carnage (which attaches itself to Woody Harrelson’s serial killer Cletus Kasady) will collide on screen. ‘He doesn’t get a pen and write,’ explains Marcel of Hardy’s process. ‘We spent months breaking the story together on FaceTime, riffing on ideas, seeing what worked, seeing what didn’t. Then I took everything we spoke about and holed up somewhere for three months quietly, knocking out a script.’” The “Venom” sequel finds Serkis in the director’s chair for his fourth feature, with his catalog of films including “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle” from 2018 and the romance “Breathe” from 2017. Serkis is a motion capture legend, thanks to his work on “The Lord of the Rings,” “King Kong,” and “Planet of the Apes.” Criticisms were mainly flung at the original “Venom” for its CGI which requires Tom Hardy to be blended with the technology so it stands to reason that Serkis will more fluidly integrate motion capture graphics into real-world settings than the first film did. “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” is currently set to be released on September 24. Critics Give The Suicide Squad a Perfect Score

Film critics have given their nod of approval for James Gunn’s take on The Suicide Squad. Receiving a rare 100% opening score by over 45 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has been praised, not only for the acting but for the proper use of Suicide Squad humor resulting in a highly entertaining film that’s leagues above the 2016 version. In comparison, the previous highest-ranked superhero movie was 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse at 97 percent.

Comicbook‘s Jenna Anderson take on the film reads, “There are so many things about The Suicide Squad that are revolutionary, from the extraordinary ensemble cast to the compelling and downright absurd story. But the most surreal element of the film might be the way it showcases the endless potential of the DC universe, with a feeling of wonder that those who have spent hours thumbing through back issues at their local comic shop will probably recognize. The Suicide Squad not only raises the bar for just how much a superhero movie can accomplish in one sitting, but it proves that the weird and oft-forgotten comic characters are superstars deserving of your attention. I have never seen a superhero movie with such a refined sense of identity and such a love for the source material and if I never see one like it again, I’ll only be a little disappointed.” Justin Chang of LA Times also writes, “After 2016’s ugly, bludgeoning Suicide Squad, I couldn’t imagine liking and could barely stomach the idea of seeing another movie called Suicide Squad. I’m delighted to be proven wrong.” Fans will have to wait another week until The Suicide Squad releases over on HBO Max and in theatres on August 6.

Deadpool 3 Movie Plot And Updates

We're still waiting on an official release date for the third movie, but we do now know that long-time Bob's Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin have been hired to write the threequel. According to Deadline, the pair were hired after Reynolds met with writers to hear their pitches, both he and the studio felt the sisters' take was the "perfect fit". Even though there are writers now, the third movie remains in early development, so we can't expect to see it any time soon. "It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make," Feige told Collider. That means a 2022 production start at the earliest.

 

That hasn't stopped Reynolds from teasing us all with tantalising photos, of course. Depending on when it starts filming in 2022, there's a chance we could see it in 2023. Marvel already has two movies confirmed for that year (Ant-Man 3 and Guardians 3), but there are still two dates free: July 28 and November 3. Once a more specific filming start date has been confirmed, we should have a better idea of when the Merc with a Mouth will return. If there's one certainty in life, it's that Ryan Reynolds will reprise the role of Wade Wilson for Deadpool 3. Nobody else has confirmed their involvement yet, so we'll have to wait and see who's joining Reynolds. Deadpool 2 introduced us to a range of new heroes too with the X-Force team and although some didn't survive long enough, we could see the likes of Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) again. However, Beetz isn't so sure she'll be back as she revealed in March 2021 that she hadn't heard anything about a role: "I would love to revive the role... I haven't had any specific conversations around it. But I'm interested." Fellow teammates Colossus (Stefan Kapičić), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna) and Russell (Julian Dennison) will probably round out the X-Force team if we see them again, perhaps with Peter (Rob Delaney) in tow. Fans shouldn't hold out much hope to see the likes of Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) and Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgård) return for Deadpool 3, but superheroes always cheat death in the comics, so never say never. One character who already cheated death (as long as Deadpool 2's post-credits sequence is canon) in the franchise is Vanessa, Deadpool's girlfriend, and it's safe to assume that she'll return for the sequel too. Baccarin defended Vanessa's lack of screen time in the sequel with fans accusing the movie of 'fridging' her. "I can understand that people felt that way and I certainly was disappointed that I didn't have more to do, because I just loved the part so much," she said. "But in watching the film and reading the script, it felt like such an emotionally pivotal role in the film and the entire arc of his character in the film is set into motion because of what happens to my character." The Merc with a Mouth might have his hands full fighting to protect her though, as previous Easter eggs have hinted that Mr Sinister could turn out to be the big bad of Deadpool 3. Failing that, Deadpool 2's cut cameo from the likes of Omega Red during the Ice Box Prison scene could also hint at the future of the franchise. TJ Miller played Weasel in the first two movies, but has said he'd "rather they didn't" make a third movie and if that means he won't be back, we won't be too bothered by it. Will we finally see an on-screen reunion for Ryan Reynolds and his nemesis Hugh Jackman? We simply don't know. Reynolds has teased that the threequel is "looking to go in a completely different direction", teasingly adding: "Often, they reboot or change a character maybe like four movies too late." We don't know if this is the same idea that the Molyneux sisters will be taking for their take on Deadpool, but they already have to deal with potentially fitting Deadpool in the MCU, so it'll feel different already. Though Deadpool's original director said the threequel didn't need an R rating to be great, the movie will be rated R, so don't worry about that. Feige confirmed in February 2021 that since Deadpool has "established" itself as an R-rated franchise, "we already said we would not mess with [the rating]". It's unclear how the movie's MCU connection will play a part in the continuity of the series from the first two movies or if it'll effectively be a soft reboot. Does this mean that time travel will play a more prominent role in Deadpool 3? The last time we saw Negasonic Teenage Warhead, she was fixing Cable's time machine so Deadpool could right the wrongs of the past, including a regrettable yet hilarious career choice made by Ryan Reynolds. Deadpool 3 could also prove fruitful if Marvel wants to introduce other former Fox characters. Wernick suggested to Den of Geek that the future of Deadpool could be crossover-heavy. "There's a lot to be sorted out, like how Deadpool fits into the Marvel Universe with the other characters and into the release schedule of the MCU. Then it's, do the X-Men get in there at some point? Fantastic Four? There's a lot to be sorted out." Leitch said: "You can put [Deadpool] in with any one of those characters, or an ensemble of those characters, and it just sort of magnifies what you're doing. So that's probably one aspect that they are entertaining, and hopefully, they are entertaining more ideas as well." Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Film Reveals

At the recent San Diego Comic-Con virtual event, Toei Animation delivered a teaser video for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super anime film. Coming after an early announcement, the 21st film for the Dragon Ball franchise teaser reveals the official title and character designs.

Titled Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Toei will be employing different animation technology to offer fans a new visual expression. The panel of Masako Nozawa (voice of Goku), Akio Iyoku (executive producer of the Dragon Ball series and editor for series creator Akira Toriyama) and Norihiro Hayashida (producer of the television anime and movies for the Dragon Ball series) delivered a look at Goku rendered in the new display along with one of the new characters set to appear. Additionally, updated designs for Piccolo, Pan and Krillin were also shown in the teaser video. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is set to release sometime in 2022 and will feature a script and screenplay by creator Akira Toriyama.

Still, as there was not any proof, Murdock remained free.

Eventually, however, Wilson Fisk claimed to possess “the Murdock Papers,” it contained the proof that Murdock was Daredevil. Fisk agreed on a term to exchange this evidence for immunity for the crimes he has committed himself, leading to a search for him. Even though the evidence was revealed to be a gigantic hoax, the FBI was still to corner him and then arrested him. Bendis’ run on the title ended with both Murdock and Fisk in prison.

He still could not allow the killers like Fisk and Bullseye to escape, so he incapacitated his longtime enemies even before he left. To cover his secret identity, He made it seem as if the Punisher had taken him hostage.

Justice League: Zack Snyder’s Cut Could Be Longer Than 214 minutes

Zack Snyder, director of Justice League, has revealed that the film’s upcoming “Snyder Cut” re-release will have a runtime of more than 214 minutes. The filmmaker had previously suggested that he wanted the film to last that long (over three and a half hours), while support was growing among the 2017 film’s fanbase for Warner Bros to release the hypothetical Snyder Cut.

Snyder is currently re-editing the film at great expense for the US streaming service HBO Max. Reports have suggested the undertaking could cost between $20m and $30m to complete.

Patrick Wilson joins the cast of Roland Emmerich’s ‘Moonfall’

‘The Conjuring‘ actor Patrick Wilson is the latest addition to the cast of Moonfall. Charlie Plummer, Josh Gad, and Halle Berry have also been cast for the movie.

Directed by Roland Emmerich, Moonfall will portray the story of an astronaut who has to come back in action after Moon knocks Earth mysteriously. The plot is very different from the usual concepts, and it’ll be interesting to see how the makers will present it.

Wilson will play the lead role of the astronaut while Plummer will play the character of his teenage son.

Berry will portray the role of a NASA administrator. Gad will be playing the part of KC Houseman, an intelligent but disorganized genius.

The film is currently in its planning stage and will probably release in 2021 if the production work gets completed in time.

Wilson’s last theatrical performance was in ‘Midway.’ He will be next seen in ‘The Aquaman 2‘ and ‘The Conjuring 3.’

ABC Rebooting ‘The Wonder Years’ With A Black Family

ABC is rebooting The Wonder Years, but with a black family. The original coming-of-age “dramedy” starred Fred Savage, premiered in 1988 and ran for six seasons.

The Wonder Years followed Savage’s character as a middle-class suburban teenager growing up during the late 1960s and early ‘70s.

The rebooted show will take place in the same time period, but it will focus on a black family who lives in Montgomery, Alabama.

Empire co-creator Lee Daniels will be the executive producer of the show, Saladin K. Patterson is the showrunner and the original series co-creator Neal Marlens is working as a consultant. Savage is also on the team working as a director and executive producer.

The official description for the reboot reads, “How a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama in the turbulent late 1960’s, the same era as the original series, made sure it was The Wonder Years for them too.”

In prior years, Savage has slammed the idea of rebooting The Wonder Years. However, the question was usually asked in regards to continuing the story with the original cast.

“My answer will remain the same — so I won’t get tired of people asking if everyone else doesn’t get tired of me saying, ‘No, it’s not going to happen,’” Savage told Vanity Fair. “You know, I’ve always said that The Wonder Years, it’s not just the name of the show — it’s a time in your life, a very special, finite time in your life. And the way the show was written, it’s about looking back with some longing.

I think we all look back at that time in our lives and long for it and idealize it. One of the reasons it takes on this kind of mythic, almost haunting quality in our lives is because it’s something you can’t go back and can’t revisit. It only exists in our memories, in our shared experiences with people who went through it with us. That’s really what the show was all about. And I think that the idea of revisiting the show mirrors that. And I like that… I love all the reboots and revisitations and reimaginings of all these [other] shows, but I don’t think it works, conceptually, for The Wonder Years.”

The reboot of the ABC series makes sense and is very timely as the globe is taking more interest in topics concerning race relations and racial injustice. Fans will learn in the reboot how a different family lived those same “wonder years” in a different part of the country.

‘Lower Decks’: Watch First Trailer for ‘Star Trek’ Animated Comedy Series

The Star Trek franchise enters a Rick and Morty-like universe in the new trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks, an animated comedy series heading to CBS All Access this summer.

The show, developed by Rick and Morty vet Mike McMahan, “focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380. Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.”

Unlike every Star Trek series that proceeded it, Lower Decks puts the emphasis on humor, with the cartoon set up as a class comedy between the “bridge crew” — the main focus of every Star Trek series — and the workers in the “lower decks” of the spaceship.

The voice cast for Lower Decks features Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, Eugene Cordero, Dawnn Lewis and Jerry O’Connell. The first episode of Season 1 premieres August 6th, with the remainder of the 10-episode first season to follow every Thursday after that.

Star Trek: Lower Decks is the third spinoff from the sci-fi franchise to stream exclusively on CBS All Access, following Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, with a few more in the works, including Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and another, more kid-friendly animated series set for Nickelodeon. Thandie Newton Spills Her Tom Cruise Horror Story from Mission: Impossible 2 Shoot

Thandie Newton has revealed that she was scared of Tom Cruise while filming Mission: Impossible 2. The actress starred alongside Cruise in the 2000 action flick, which was the first sequel in the long-running franchise that is still going to this day. But, as Newton tells it, Cruise was a lot to handle on set.

The reveal came as part of a candid and wide-ranging interview with the Westworld star. At one point, Thandie Newton was discussing screenwriter Paul Haggis, who she worked with on Crash. Haggis is currently embroiled in a sexual assault case. Newton expressed her surprise that "smart" people end up being associated with Scientology, which brought her to Tom Cruise. When asked why she never did another Mission: Impossible movie, Newton said the following.

"Oh, I was never asked. I was so scared of Tom. He was a very dominant individual. He tries superhard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot. And I think he has this sense that only he can do everything as best as it can be done. There was one time, we were doing this night scene, there were so many extras with pyrotechnics and you name it, and it was a scene with him and me on the balcony."

"And I don't think it was a very well-written scene. I get angry with him. We're frustrated with each other. And we're looking out over Spain. It wasn't going well. And John Woo, bless him, wasn't there. He was downstairs looking at everything on a monitor. And John had made a decision at the beginning of the movie, unbeknownst certainly to me, that he didn't speak English. Which I think was very helpful to him, but it was extremely unhelpful to the rest of us."

Tom Cruise has had a career that spans nearly four decades. The actor is known for being intense and dedicated, going so far, in recent years, to learn how to fly jets for Top Gun 2. Speaking further, Thandie Newton detailed the unflattering side of that dedication and intensity. While filming a scene, Cruise, attempting to be helpful, made Newton feel insecure.

"So this scene was happening, and Tom was not happy with what I was doing because I had the shittiest lines. And he gets so frustrated with having to try and explain that he goes, 'Let me just, let's just go do it. Let's just rehearse on-camera.' So we rehearsed and they recorded it, and then he goes, 'I'll be you. You be me.'

So we filmed the entire scene with me being him, because, believe me, I knew the lines by then, and him playing me. And it was the most unhelpful ... I can't think of anything less revealing. It just pushed me further into a place of terror and insecurity. It was a real shame. And bless him. And I really do mean bless him, because he was trying his damnedest."

Thandie Newton even claims she watched a zit form on Tom Cruise's nose from all the stress he was under. She calls the experience a nightmare, going on to explain the situation.

"I remember at the beginning of the night, seeing this slight red mark on his nose, and by the end of the night, I kid you not - this is how his metabolism is so fierce - he had a big whitehead where that red dot was. It would take anyone else 48 hours to manifest a zit. I saw it growing, and it was like the zit was me, just getting bigger and bigger. I remember calling Jonathan Demme. I described the night to him: 'A nightmare.' As I was describing it, it was clear that I thought I was the big fucking problem. And Jonathan was like, 'Thandie, shame on you for not backing yourself.' He was really sweet."

Despite the terrible experience, Thandie Newton did seem to be taking the whole thing in stride all of these years later. But the story doesn't end there. As the actress recalls, Tom Cruise ended up wanting to reshoot the scene. What's more, it was Cruise's then-wife Nicole Kidman who got Newton the job in the first place.

"Tom called and I thought, Oh, this is it. The apology. No, he was just like, 'We're going to reshoot this next week.' I'm like, 'Way brilliant.' And the next time we shot it, I went in there and I just basically manifested all the, because I realized what he wanted. He just wanted this alpha bitch. And I did as best as I could. It's not the best way to get the best work out of someone. He wasn't horrible. It was just, he was really stressed. I had the most extraordinary time, and you know who got me that role? Nicole Kidman. I've never actually outright asked her, but when your husband is like, 'Who would you mind me pretending to shag for the next six months?' You know what I mean? It's kind of nice if you can pick together. Nicole was a huge advocate for me."

Even without the Mission: Impossible franchise, Thandie Newton is doing quite well these days. Aside from Westworld, she recently starred in Solo: A Star Wars Story and is set to star in the new sci-fi/thriller Reminiscence alongside Hugh Jackman. According to variety, Joe Russo, who produced Extraction along with his brother, Anthony, has been tapped for the sequel as a writer.

Black Panther‘s box office predictions are here and it looks like King T’Challa and the rest of the Wakandans are about to rule the box office this weekend. Deadline reports that the Marvel superhero flick directed by Ryan Coogler is on track to earn $200 to $205 million over four days during its opening weekend. Its three-day earning estimate is $175 million. So far, close to 40 percent of those ticket sales are coming from advance screenings that took place last night. If the estimates hold true, this will be a historic win for Ryan Coogler and the cast of Black Panther. It will mean that this is the biggest opening weekend ever recorded by a film helmed by an African-American director, beating the previous record holder, The Fate Of The Furious, which was directed by F. Gary Gray. According to Deadline, the numbers would also place the Black Panther movie in the list of top 10 biggest opening weekends ever, one spot behind another Marvel product, Captain America: Civil War.
