Fortnite: Save the World on Mac is Shutting Down

Fortnite, the Save the World version, not the Battle Royale game, will be shutting down on Mac devices soon. The end of the game on that platform is the latest development in the ongoing legal battle between Epic Games and Apple. Epic Games said it’s no longer able to release patches for its games on Mac devices because of the disputes, and as a result of that, the game will be unplayable later this month.

 

Epic Games announced its plans to shutter Save the World on Mac devices in a post on the game’s site this week. Beginning September 23rd, the developer announced, the game will no longer be playable.

“Apple is preventing Epic from signing games and patches for distribution on Mac, which ends our ability to develop and offer Fortnite: Save the World for the platform,” Epic Games said. “Specifically, our upcoming v14.20 release will cause bugs for players on v13.40, resulting in a very poor experience. Since we are no longer able to sign updates and release fixes for these issues, beginning September 23, 2020, Fortnite: Save the World will no longer be playable on macOS.”

If you played Save the World at any point between September 17, 2019, to September 17, 2020, you’ll be getting a refund for whatever edition of the game your purchased and any V-Bucks you may have spent on Llamas on the Mac platform. Save the World Starter Packs are no longer available to purchase as of this week.

If you’ve been playing Fortnite Battle Royale on your Mac devices, you’re in luck. That version of the game is still up and running, but because of the legal situation between the two companies, it won’t be getting anymore updates for the time being. The v13.40 build is the latest update to go live on that platform – the one that added cars to the game – so if you’re playing on a Mac, you’re far behind everyone else that’s been enjoying the current Marvel-themed season and all the updates that have come with it.

Microsoft Surface Pro X Reportedly Getting New Processor, Colour Option

 Microsoft Surface Pro X, the company's ARM-powered tablet, is reportedly getting a refresh with an upgraded Microsoft SQ2 processor, a new platinum colour option, and new Type Cover colours. The updated version is expected to launch in October this year, and Microsoft reportedly aims at pushing the Surface Pro X to the mainstream market with the new processor, hue variant, and accessories. The original Surface Pro X debuted last year and the upgraded version seems to be coming right on time.

In a report, Windows Central cited sources that the Microsoft Surface Pro X will soon start shipping with the company's latest SQ2 processor. This is a significant upgrade from the SQ1 chip that powered the earlier Surface Pro X model. It is being speculated that the new SQ2 chip is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen2 SoC that promises to offer a notable boost in performance.

The report also suggests that Microsoft is planning to announce x86 64-bit app-emulation. As of now, the ARM version of Windows 10 can only emulate 32-bit apps. Given the improved performance of the SQ2 chip, the 64-bit app-emulation could boost demand for the Surface Pro X.

Apart from the new chip, the Surface Pro X could also be getting a platinum colour option, similar to the one already available on the regular Surface Pro offerings. Currently, the Surface Pro X is only available in a black colour option. The Surface Pro X Type Covers are also reportedly getting colour variants similar to the regular Surface Pro Type Covers. With the new colours and accessories, the report suggests that the tech giant plans to promote the Surface Pro X as “ready for mainstream.”

The report also points out that there are no significant design changes in the refreshed Surface Pro X variant.

The Surface Pro X is currently available in two storage variants in India. The 8GB + 128GB storage option is priced at Rs. 98,990. On the other hand, the 8GB + 256GB storage variant carries a price tag of Rs. 1,43,950.

TikTok US Deal: As Deadline Looms, Scramble Ensues on Structure

 Amid a looming deadline set by President Donald Trump, negotiators scrambled to find a new ownership structure for the popular video app TikTok that would pass muster in both the United States and China.

A deal appeared to be taking shape this week that would allow Silicon Valley-based Oracle to be the US technology partner for TikTok to allay Washington's concerns that the platform could be used for Chinese espionage.

But details of the deal remained unclear. Some reports said Oracle would be a minority stakeholder in TikTok, with the Chinese parent firm ByteDance keeping a majority.

A US government national security panel was reviewing the Oracle bid while Republican lawmakers warned against accepting a deal that keeps the Chinese firm in control.

"We'll make a decision soon," Trump said Thursday, a day after saying he was undecided and still considering the national security implications of any new structure for the wildly popular app, which has an estimated 100 million users in the United States and as many as one billion worldwide.

Some analysts said it appeared difficult to craft a deal that allays concerns in both countries on security and the algorithms and other key technologies used by TikTok.

"It seems like a zero-sum game where either China or the United States gets the intellectual property and security benefits, and there's no way for both parties to share that," said Betsy Cooper, director of the Aspen Institute's Tech Policy Hub and a former Homeland Security official.

Cooper said the reported deal with Oracle hosting data as a minority shareholder "doesn't sound like it resolves the security concerns" raised by Trump and other US officials.

James Lewis, who heads technology policy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said Oracle could still win approval for its deal, but may need to make changes.

"If they can show a good package of security measures it will help," Lewis said. "It's an easier sell for Oracle if ByteDance becomes a minority owner."

Six Republican senators said in a letter to Trump this week that "any deal between an American company and ByteDance must ensure that TikTok's US operations, data, and algorithms are entirely outside the control of ByteDance or any Chinese-state directed actors, including any entity that can be compelled by Chinese law to turn over or access US consumer data."

Trump has threatened to ban TikTok in the United States if no deal is reached by September 20, in the latest battle between the two countries over technology.
Possible Beijing veto

Richard Windsor, an independent technology analyst who writes the Radio Free Mobile blog, said that any TikTok deal that addresses the US security issues runs the risk of facing a veto by Beijing.

"The fact that Oracle will have access to TikTok's algorithms and source code greatly increases the chances of the deal being approved by the US administration, but it also greatly increases the chances of it being blocked by China," Windsor said.

While parties struggle to reach a deal, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday on a tour of a factory that "innovation is the most important quality of business management, and it is also what we must overcome obstacles to do in the future."

"Key core technology must be firmly kept in our own hands," he added, according to China's official Xinhua news agency.

But Windsor also noted that "ByteDance needs this situation to be resolved quickly" since "there are no shortages of innovative apps waiting in the wings to fill any gaps left by TikTok should ByteDance fail to prevent a ban."

The TikTok saga has seen several twists, with Microsoft seen initially as the suitor before its bid was rejected.

Walmart, which was working with Microsoft, said in a statement Sunday it "continues to have an interest in a TikTok investment and continues discussions with ByteDance leadership and other interested parties."

Chinese authorities have said they would not allow ByteDance to sell the algorithms used by TikTok, which are believed to hold much of the value for the popular social platform.

Trump has demanded a significant portion of the sale go to the US Treasury, but said Wednesday he had been advised that was not possible.

Facebook to Curb Private Groups Spreading Hate, Misinformation

 Facebook on Thursday said it is cracking down on private groups where hate or misinformation is shared among members.

The move comes amid a wider crack down on malicious and false content at the social networking giant which has led people to turn to private groups of like-minded members who can share content that is not available to the wider Facebook community.

"People turn to Facebook Groups to connect with others who share their interests, but even if they decide to make a group private, they have to play by the same rules as everyone else," Facebook vice president of engineering Tom Alison said in a blog post.

Alison said Facebook's community standards "apply to public and private groups, and our proactive detection tools work across both."

Facebook uses artificial intelligence to automatically scan posts, even in private groups, taking down pages that repeatedly break its rules or that are set up in violation of the social network's standards.

More than a million groups have been taken down in the past year for violating hate policies, according to Alison.

In the past year, Facebook has removed about 1.5 million pieces of content in groups for violating its policies on organised hate, with 91 percent of those posts found by automated software systems, according to Alison.

Over that same period, the leading social network has taken down about 12 million pieces of content in groups for violating policies on  hate speech, 87 percent of which was found proactively.

Facebook last month said it has removed hundreds of groups tied to the far-right QAnon conspiracy theory and imposed restrictions on nearly 2,000 more as part of a crackdown on stoking violence.

The moves, which were made across both Facebook and Instagram, were against accounts tied to "offline anarchist groups that support violent acts amidst protests, US-based militia organizations and QAnon," the social media platform said in a blog post.

Under rules tightened on Thursday, administrators or moderators of groups taken down for rule-breaking will be temporarily blocked from forming new groups at Facebook.

People tagged for violating social network standards in groups will need to get moderator or administrator permission for any new posts for 30 days, and if what is cleared for sharing continues to break the rules the entire group will be removed, according to Alison.

Facebook will also start "archiving" groups that been without administrators for a long time, meaning they still exist but don't appear in searches and members can't post anything.

And, to promote getting information from authoritative sources, Facebook will no longer show health-themed groups in recommendation results.

Facebook has been struggling with hoaxes and misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic, seeking to give users well-sourced information about the health emergency.

iOS 14 Bug Resets Default Mail and Browser Settings With Every Reboot

 iOS 14 has been released for all iPhone and iPad users earlier this week, and one of the new features includes the ability to change the default browser and mail app settings. However, a new bug has now been seen that resets Mail and Safari as default mail and browsers apps after reboot. This is affecting both iPad and iPhone users and we can confirm that two iOS 14 handsets owned by Gadgets 360 team members are also experiencing the same issue.

The new Apple software released ahead of the anticipated iPhone 12 line-up this year brings a lot of changes, including the ability to change the default browser to Google Chrome from the default Safari browser that comes bundled in. This can be done by going into Settings > Chrome > Default Browser App. Once this change is made, all links will automatically open on Google Chrome instead of Safari. This is a welcome change for all Chrome fans. However a new bug reportedly resets this default setting every time a user reboots their iPhone or iPad. After the reboot, links again start opening on Safari browser on iPhone and iPads, a change that shouldn't happen in an ideal scenario. This bug was first spotted by 9to5Mac.

Several users on Twitter have also reported of facing the same issue, and two iPhone users on the Gadgets 360 team are also facing this problem. The same thing happens when you switch the default mail app from Mail to Outlook. The default setting works fine till the iPhone or iPad battery dies or an intentional reboot is done. That's when all of those manually tweaked settings are erased, and the device is reset to its default settings. After the reboot, all new mails are redirected to the first-party Mail app once again.

PlayStation Finally Reveals Just How Big the PS5 Controller Is

We finally know how big the PS5 DualSense controller is. While PlayStation hasn't disclosed precise measurements, it has revealed, via The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, the controller alongside the PS4 DualShock 4, giving PlayStation fans an indication of the controller's size. And it's big, at least compared to the DualShock 4, which is not only shorter, but considerably slimmer.

If you have an Xbox One controller, you'll know it matches up, in terms of size, very similarly to the DualShock 4. In other words, it looks like the PS5 DualSense has a similar size, thickness, and presumably weight as the Xbox One controller. And this is good news.

The PS4 controller is pretty great, but it's a bit small and light. For people with normal-sized hands, this isn't too big of a deal, but for people with larger hands, the PS4 controller can be a bit uncomfortable to use. It looks like the DualSense will remedy this issue.

While we have a pretty good sense of the controller's size and thickness, it's still unclear just how hefty it is. It's apparently a bit heavier than the PS4 controller, which hopefully means it will also feel a bit sturdier. The PS4 controller feels a bit flimsy sometimes, like it's always one hardcore Rocket League session away from breaking.

Dungeons & Dragons to Introduce Alternative Rules to Racial Ability Score Bonuses

Dungeons & Dragons will be introducing a set of alternative rules that does away with racial ability score bonuses. Earlier this week, Dungeons & Dragons released a lengthy statement addressing diversity and equality in its game. The post also addressed several rules and in-world lore that seen as problematic due to their real world implications. One such rule is the default ability score bonuses given to a character for being of a certain race. These scores are meant to reflect that tropes such like elves are more dexterous, or that dwarves are more resilient, but they also reflect the concept of bio-essentialism in their game.

Dungeons & Dragons confirmed that an upcoming product released later this year would contain alternative rules for customizing a character's origins, including the option to change ability score increases related to being a dwarf, elf or another one of D&D's "playable folks." The point of these rules is to reflect that a character in the game is an individual that doesn't need to conform to the generalities of their race or background.

No other details were provided about the unannounced product other than that it would be released later this year. Assuming it's not the just announced Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden (which is unlikely), it would be the product traditionally released in November that is widely rumored to be a new rules expansion.

Other third-party resources have offered up alternative rules for racial score abilities and other racial traits, many of which have received acclaim. Pathfinder 2E has shifted to an ancestry model that provides players with a choice in feats instead of mandatory traits, while Ancestry & Culture: An Alternative to Race in 5E has received acclaim for splitting up racial abilities into ancestral traits and cultural traits, which can be mixed and matched at will. Alternative rules for these traits were also provided in the supplement.

FIFA 21: Release Date, Free Upgrades, and Everything Else We Know So Far

Yesterday during EA Play 2020, Electronic Arts revealed FIFA 21 for the first time. Alongside the reveal trailer, EA also revealed the game's release date, a new feature called "dual entitlement," pre-order bonuses, various special editions, and much more. Samsung insider Ross Young explained- “iPhone 12 panel production will start around 6 weeks late, so rather than early June, it won’t start till the end of July which should imply a delay in the iPhone 12 launch from September to October.” And Front Page Tech’s Jon Prosser informed with wrap –

“Regardless of what you’ve heard elsewhere, we will not be getting it in September, iPhone 12 is delayed. We’re going to be getting it in October… [but] instead of having announcements in September and then it comes out in October, it looks like they’ll shoot for all of it happening in October.”

As updated on May 20, 2020, by Forbes- John Prosser mentioned that Apple would hopefully launch all the products simultaneously this year in the month of October. But it is not yet guaranteed.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus was announced almost 2 years ago as Nokia X5 in China. It was launched as Nokia 5.1 Plus in 2018. The Nokia 5.1 Plus, alongside all the other eligible Nokia smartphones that didn’t receive Android 10, should get the update by the end of June this year. In India, Nokia 5.1 Plus users will now receive the latest Android 10 update.

The phone was launched in India in August 2018 with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. HMD Global has updated a total of 15 Nokia smartphones to the latest version of the OS. The DBZ: Kakarot has finally arrived with the interesting part of this game is that it brought Whis and Beerus to the game. The Super Saiyan God form of Vegeta and Goku has been introduced. The positive sign of the game is that the contents are quite challenging.

As per the expectations of the fans are concerned there are some original episodes and also boss battle episodes. The main attraction of the game is to train enough to fight Beerus. The latest update adds a couple of improvements to the GoPro MAX’s 360 Mode. For one, its users can now shoot 3K videos at up to 60 frames per second. This means that the camera can now capture more detailed scenes when filming action-packed activities. Shooting at 60fps will also allow users to have well-captured slow-mo videos.

Update v1.50 is also adding a time-lapse video and time-lapse photo in GoPro MAX’s 360 Mode. The camera has always had a time-lapse tech since it launched last year. However, creators will now have more ways to capture changes in the scenery in longer periods and 360-degree views.

Time Lapse Photo, on the other hand, merely adds an option to take a 360 image hands-free by choosing one shot from an entire 360-degree time-lapse footage. GoPro MAX’s HERO Mode now has extended horizon leveling capability for the TimeWarp and Photo functions. Users should also notice a speed improvement in the offloading of media contents of their camera to the GoPro app once installing the update.

According to variety, Joe Russo, who produced Extraction along with his brother, Anthony, has been tapped for the sequel as a writer.

Fans would be overjoyed to know that Studio Feel is returning for the final season. The first season was animated by Studio Brains.

Still, there was a shift in the studio in the second season where Studio Feel took over. There were some noticeable changes in the character design, but it was for good, and we all liked it.

About the Show

In my opinion, Oregairu is possibly the best high school rom-com drama out there. The show revolves around three characters who all have these contradicting perspectives and notions on life and people.

It dives into the psyche of all these characters and makes us understand their individual struggles. But what makes the show best is the witty and canny dialogues and the way it handles all of that.

Needless to say, but the truth must be spoken, Oregairu is for a very niche community. In this community, people admire characters for the way they are.

What makes it accessible?

Oregairu is critically acclaimed by many people because of the ideologies of Hachiman only. His take on the bittersweet life and how he perceives people is what makes the show much more intriguing and intricate than it already is.

Another thing about the anime is that it has a well-defined end goal, the creator knows where he is heading with the characters. Plus, it runs on several different smaller arcs, all at once, thus creating a comprehensive and an all-embracing story for its audience.

About the Mangaka

The creator of Oregairu is Wataru Watari. His other work is ‘Girlish Number,’ which is quite good.

Still, the very definition of brilliance lies in his other creation ‘Oregairu.’ Backed up by Ponkan8, the illustrator, the light novel series, rose to popularity in no time. They both completed the novel back in 2019, with a total of 14 volumes.

Production Update

The anime was to be broadcasted in April 2020, so one can easily make out that the production is all complete, and it was just because of the coronavirus outbreak, which led to its delay.

A key visual was released for the new season, and various fans of the show pointed out that Studio Feel was behind the animation as it resembled the character designs from the second season.

Expected Storyline

This is the last season of Oregairu, and I seriously don’t know how I will live without this show. Putting my emotions aside, let’s focus on the storyline of the third season —

It will continue after the huge cliffhanger we all got to see in the last season. The people of the volunteer club will face the problem of the High School Prom.

Although the prom is just another contrivance to all the questions that we face in our lives, just a heads up. This season, the characters will find their resolve to move forward in their lives and to speak up for themselves.

Hikigaya Hachiman, the narcissistic protagonist with a very interesting set of ideas and notions towards life and society, is compelled to join the volunteer club by his teacher. And there, his life suddenly begins to change.

Both the seasons follow him and his friends on a journey of fun and self-discovery where they all develop to better human beings. The entire series makes you feel more and more connected with the characters with the passing of every episode.

The anime version first released in 2015 as a web animation series titled ‘ Monsuta Musume no Iru Nichijo: Hobo Mainichi! Namappoi Douga’. Besides, two short video episodes by PVA released under the name of ‘Monsuta Musume no Iru Nichijo’.

The anime create the existence of mythical fantasy creatures like mermaid, lamias, harpies, centaurs, and other creatures. They live in a world where human and the special species live harmoniously together by Interspecies Cultural Exchange act.

The story of Monster Musume is about Kimihito Kurusua, a Japanese schoolgirl. She didn’t volunteer in the exchange program. But accidentally encounters with the ‘Interspecies Cultural Exchange’ program which leads her into a continual turmoil.

The makers confirmed the release of the anime Monster Musume Season 2. But it doesn’t announce any official release date for the series. As of now, it expected to release somewhere near fall 2021 or late 2020. But for the unavoidable situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it may take longer than we expect.
