This is kind of nostalgic as it reminds me of Enel’s Survival Game in Skypiea arc. Who would participate in this Tenryubito game? Some of the Holy Knights (at least the current 4 excluding Shamrock) along with other joining Tenryubito fighters? In any case, a Tenryubito game in Elbaf is a risky one - this is not a random human kingdom.
The dragon actually being a hint at a mythical Kirin df (Qilin in chinese folklore) is interesting. Just read some wiki articles about these creatures. They are said to be gentle creatures, and so considerate that they neither trample the grass they walk nor step on any bugs or other tiny creatures. They are also believed to be the servants of a just ruler and highly value justice themselves, interesting choice to have one serve under Imu. Kirin (God‘s Knight), a Dragon (Kaido) a phoenix (Marco) and a mythical turtle (not Pekoms, lol) are said to be the four kings of beasts in the chinese folklore. That said I expect the Kirin DF to be a powerful one.
I wonder if Shamrock leaving has anything to do with his Father’s promotion. Could also be to deal with whatever Blackbeard had Laffitte doing about the ships/supplies near Mary Geoise.
At one point, i am having issues with these god knights going against the strawhats (or any other yonko crew). I mean, they can get all the training money can buy, but it does not compare to the action and "growing under the weight" that our guys went through. I mean, Luffy knocked down Kaido and now there is a snotty teenager with an arrow fruit whose biggest struggle was chewing food on their own... i mean, come oooon.
The story has been leaning a lot into lineage, and some of the original 19 families had to give Joy Boy a fight. Plus we don't really know how many World Nobles there are. The prominent families that apparently vie for five elder spots have been doing so for hundreds of years, possibly staying on top of a very large tree of branch families, and everythingbin this world is about power. All them World Noble ladies hot for Garling weren't just thinking he's pretty and successful, but "My kids could have those genes and my family would rise!"
Buying the best equipment, coaches, teachers, nutritionists, devil fruits, etc. for their most promising heirs is how they've stayed in power for centuries, even amongst other World Nobles. We're only seeing it now because the main story is about watching the scrappy underdogs grind their way to the top.
I've been saying this for a while but it's rather likely that all tenryubito come from folk with strong lineages. I think the lore reveals of the harley text and mural could reinforce this. We learn through the text that the metaplot started a whole age earlier than the void century. Imu and his 20 kings won a war during the void century and rose to their current position. But before that the world had been at war through the entire void century and then an undisclosed period of time before that. Who is likely to become or even stay as kings during periods such as these? The strong of course. The tenrubito we see in modern times are bornerline clownish looking but they descend from the 20 kings who ultimately won Imu the war against joyboy. And these in turn could be descendants of kings that had been involved in the conflicts that lead to the void century. We are talking potentially hundreds of years of conqueror kings. A collection of the strongest lineages the world could produce at the time. Each one of them a potential oden.
They may have strong lineages and other factors. For example Shanks crazy haki could be related more to his bloodline than his life experience. Some celestial dragons are clearly weak (Charlos), but some aren't. Why are so many children of professional athletes also professional athletes, because it is partly inherited. Doesn't matter how hard you try, you won't beat Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt. This applies to Luffy too in this series. He is not just someone who worked hard, he also has one of the strongest lineages. I do like stories where the common guy can be the hero, but in One Piece, with races like lunarians, giants, skypieans, celestial dragons, and the D clan gives people certain strengths. You might be special because of how you were born, not just your effort. Plus, you would imagine God Knights to have the best (& immortal) trainers, etc, if they wanted to. Not all of them are Charlos. They possibly beat Joyboy and Nika (or at least stopped them to some extent in the past) because they are beasts.
