I don't think the plan failed 800 years ago necessarily, all imu said was that the giants were defeated in a bid to rescue their children. It may have been that the plan 800 years ago was defeating the giants to cripple joy boy's faction, in which case the plan was a roaring success. If the plan failed last time, why would he claim that the repetition of history means the giants are guaranteed to be his slaves? I think the plan must have been different back then, but a success. Or, we could get a lore drop revealing that imu wasn't even the one made the giant children need to be saved. Maybe it was a tragic freak accident that tipped the tide of the war in imu's favor. This took me back to arlong park when the strawhats heard nami's backstory. We haven't gotten the crew this emotionally invested since wholcake island. For me seeing usopp wanting to break the ice makes me think he's 100% going to wield ragnir to do so. I see it! But also because I don't see loki joining, and he's also way too op with both nidhogg and ragnir.
Something tells me we're losing loki, maybe not through death, but either he goes with imu to save elbaph, or he decides that joining imu is actually the right thing to do, this line about 800 years ago could really twist things around for him. This reveal makes me wonder if doffy will have a comeback. Hear me out, first we've never seen his eyes, so potentially something special. Second it just seems odd that imu would go through all that for one abandoned Celestial dragons kid, but they wouldn't let doffy back. I mean I know his father left but seems like they would let him back. My theory being that each family has something special about them, and thus why imu keeps them around.
