This show that they could've done the same with shanks, however only god knights tried multiple time and failed. Why didn't imu and elders came? IMO it's not due to pirate king and the crews stopping them as even after Roger died they didn't do it. The common factor is buggy, who was actually protecting shanks. That is why shanks has always been nice to buggy as he knows about it. Even at marineford, marines had to end the war after buggy met with shanks. They know buggy was only participating in the war due to whitebeard begging him, buggy was mocking the marines by doing live stream and doing a hat delivery. The couldn't let buggy start fighting to save shanks, as even imu and elders don't dare to descend against buggy. It’s interesting that groh didn’t seem to care that shuri was his actual daughter and didn’t care about reclaiming her and that it was imu who pressed for him to reclaim her because of her eyes. I believe this is the second time a latent eye ability was mentioned in the series after pudding and her 3 eyes having a latent ability to read poneglyphs.
Candelle "Dying" off-screen conveniently before the world government demanded that shuri be handed over (and the imu-involved invasion that followed). Groh saying that they wouldn't bother with a country like this to begin with, which I assume means that someone tipped them off about shuri's eyes. This could've been anyone who happened to visit esperia of course, but I think it's possible candelle could've done this upon learning how much imu desires these eyes. Just gives me a similar vibe to how the davy clan were chilling on god valley before garling learned of them being there and tipped off the elders so they could exterminate everyone there years later. Would also LINE up with the timeline of the wg invading esperia right after candelle "Died" (candelle "Dies" --> tips off wg --> invasion for shuri happens).
Candelle's line from last chapter about how she's only into one man who is out of her league. The obvious answer is that she was referring to reuven, but I feel like her quote could have a double meaning and that she's actually referring to someone way up the ladder like imu. This could be a translation thing, but gorh's LINE about how brook wasn't allowed near him I think could mean that candelle ordered brook to stay away from them when they were together? Alternatively, this could've just meant that the celestial dragon guards with gohr wouldn't want a commoner like brook near him. Either way, we know that brook was in the vicinity of gohr when he first appeared on esperia which makes me doubt gohr publicly pulled a "You will be my wife now" to candelle like a regular CD would since everyone would've noticed. Whatever happened between them had to have happened behind closed doors which of course would not discount rape from happening in the slightest, but just makes me sus about there possibly being more going on here.
I was really expecting this to be a chapter where candelle gets a bunch of emotional post-death lore, but the fact that she was barely even mentioned here makes me think we're not done with whatever role she has for the narrative. Heck, they didn't even bother to include her in the montage of brook's life flashing before his eyes before the stab from shuri.
Right now, I'm expecting candelle to reappear in the present day as an unaging holy knight that brook and probably shuri too will have to face.
