Even among all these legends, dragon truly is the most impressive so far for me.
Shooting/incapacitating a celestial dragons as a lowly marine to uphold your beliefs and protect others is one of the most badass moments in one piece. Especially since he did that even before the pirates came to the island and he couldn't hide in the chaos. It speaks volumes of his sense of justice. The guy is dropped to cover for the bosses committing genocide, it's just a kid who barely finished his training, is asked to not ask questions and just do as told. But finds a mother asking for help protecting his kids? Helps immediately. Sees a group of children about to be killed? Shoots the menace. Dragon not only asks questions, but drops answers.
Honestly he’s the version of luffy and garp who have the “actions first, ask questions later” but isn’t genuinely selfish. Dragon is genuinely purely on justice and is what drives him.
Luffy and garp? They’re good people. But they are driven by themselves. If they do something good, it’s cause it’s personal. Like vivi against baroque works or otama against kaido- it was personal because of a friend. Dragon? He actively seeks to help strangers. Not because its personal but because he knows there’s people in need of help and he seeks them out.
And we can see it because thats why garp is a rebellious hero of the marine saving people when and where he can without being pulled/forced to be a wg puppet, why luffy is a good natured pirate crew who come and save islands that they come across… whereas dragon is actively seeking to help everyone not just when and where he can that he happens to pop by- but genuinely the entire world by fixing the root of the problem: the world government.
