Basically, everything else makes sense, but with each passing chapter
that highlights the pure evil of the celestials, it becomes harder to
explain why garp would side with the marines. I don’t see how, in this
moment as garp arrives on the island and sees the genocide being
committed, he doesn’t join rocks and roger in destroying the celestials.

The theory that rocks loses it and tries to kill baby shanks and shamrock is the only one that makes any sense at all.
Even then, it still doesn’t make sense for garp to remain with the marines after the fallout of god valley. I also don’t see how dragon doesn’t recruit his father to join him in the revolution.
I think oda will find some sort of satisfactory explanation. I realize that the celestials also didn't treat the marines that well so its clear that garp's this sort of "Guardian angel" for these good marines. I personally find this convincing enough but I'm not sure how satisfactory that would be for many other readers.
I would find it genius if without ever saying anything oda makes us realize that garp is a bad guy. And that bad guys can be likeable, that we they can be our pals, and still be bad guys, not because they said yes to evil, but because they didn't say no.
A real "Discovering my grandpa was a nazi" moment, including the whole "But he wasn't killing civilians, he was forced, he was one of the good ones"
If it was intentional it would be genius, but I'm not sure. I'm aware that rocks and roger are going to fight the celestials without the intention of saving any of the innocent. Regardless of their personal reasoning for fighting the celestials, I think garp likely should've joined them in their fight against the celestials after seeing them murder innocent civilians and execute his son's entire platoon. There are some gymnastics that are needed to be done to justify it. I'm not saying that it's completely irresolvable and that oda messed up or anything. He'll likely find some satisfying way to explain it. I think it'll likely be resolved when they show garp learning of dragon defecting.
