makes garp look like trash.
I get the explanations and rationale behind his character and that the
marines are a necessary force in the world at the time, but garp didn't
have to come and help the celestial dragons murder innocent people by
interfering with their assailants in the same chapter dragon's putting
his life on the line to help people doesn't look like an accident on
oda's part.
He wasn't even going to go to god's valley until he heard roger was
there. He had literally no interest in it until he realized he could go
play out to play with his rival at the expense of innocent people's

Garp knows what's happening there at his level, and he still thought "Man I can't wait to go fight those pirates who're attacking the debauched rulers of the world as they slaughter innocent people."
I get where you're coming from but we've seen garp reject orders before, and he blasted off to god valley before anyone even told him to at the mention of roger's name. I dont know any amount of noble reasoning can paint the scenario a good color. And again, oda chose to focus on dragon doing good throughout the entire chapter just to show us garp pulling up to fight the pirates attacking the island at the end. Intentional depiction of the difference between them.
That's a very funny point to make when garp clearly doesn't give a shit about chasing down rocks any more than he does mass murder of civilians. Why even bring up rocks killing an admiral we know nothing about and could've been greenbull on steroids for all we know when you've shown more concern over it than garp has.
Garp's priority is fighting roger, one of least evil pirates of the era as far as we know. He hasn't mentioned rocks, he hasn't mentioned civilian massacres, he doesn't seem to care about the celestial dragons in general. He was told that god valley was under attack and gave no fucks about the celestial dragon's "Games," but turned into the "Real shit?" meme as soon as he heard roger was there.
I'm just thinking maybe garp's not the most benevolent guy around. Yeah he joined the marines - ostensibly - to make the world a better place, but he's as much an enabler of atrocities and war crimes as a person can be considering he's the face of his organization.
Garp didn't pull up on god valley to chase down rocks or as part of his duty as a marine like some other guy here said, he just wanted to fight roger. That's it. "Hero of the marines" and no one else as far as the god's valley citizens are concerned.
