The more we learn about this event, the more I understand how little actual information sengoku has or was willing to reveal. We know that the major factions on god valley are 1) rocks pirates, 2) roger pirates, 3) garp & marines, and 4) holy knights. I’d wager that two or three of the factions fought against the holy knights as they were attacking the slaves and citizens of the island. Garp is the only one who isn’t here for shakky, however he hates the celestial dragons, so it makes sense he’d fight against them. The holy knights were conspicuously not mentioned by sengoku. 

 

Also this flashback is probably going to show us how gaban knows how to defeat the holy knights. I don’t envision the roger pirates crossing paths with them often, so it makes the most sense to specifically have gaban and sommers meet. Also, whatever happens here is why probably roger entrusted garp with his son. In the end, the majority of the propaganda around garp and this incident is very likely to be fabricated. How are we looking on the buggy and teach are brothers theory? Does how did shanks eventually come to know of his heritage, still haven't seen how he ends up in the chest, do we have confirmation it was buggy? Was it teach? Also, why is teacher haki so seemingly weak, did he seek out the fruit so that he could mimick his dad's suppossed sword strike impacts? How does the yami yami play into it all? So many questions still this chapter is def the lead up to what we believe is the event that caused drago to eventually desert I think. How long will all these flashbacks become known to the strawhats.
